Father Mark Harrington
(About Fr. Mark)
Pastor

ext. 103

More about Fr. Mark

About my position:
As Pastor, my chief responsibility is to oversee the order and direction of the Parish and lead our community to a closer relationship with Christ. I am also responsible for making sure that, through worship and celebrating the sacraments, we are lead into a closer union with Christ and each other.

About me:
I was ordained a priest in 1979 and served in the Diocese of Sioux City, Iowa, from 1979 to 2001. I served six years at St. Joachim and Anne Parish in Sun City, Arizona, and have served at our St. Rose Parish since July, 2007. I have two brothers and one sister and grew up in Spencer, Iowa. I enjoy movies, reading and baseball and my favorite team is the Atlanta Braves.

What I like about our Catholic Community of St. Rose and The Mission of the Good Shepherd:
I appreciate the ownership and pride our Parishioners have in our Parish. We have many talented people who serve in staff positions, leadership positions, and various ministries. I am grateful for the support and encouragement extended to me by the people of our Catholic Community of St. Rose and The Mission of the Good Shepherd.

About my position:
My work provides an opportunity to use both my Business and Theology formal education and background. Having previously helped manage three other parishes, I understand what an opportunity it is to be the Parish Manager/Pastoral Associate of St. Rose Parish and The Mission of the Good Shepherd. Every work day is different for me. I deal with Parish finances, the construction, landscaping and maintenance of both St. Rose Parish and The Mission of the Good Shepherd, Parishioner and Ministry development and support, pastoral matters, larger community relations, general Parish building, and many other areas of our community's social, pastoral, and business life.

About me:
Roxanna, my wife of 35 years, also works for the Church. We recognize how everything in our Faith and our Church is relational. Our college student daughter, the great Parish events, and the wonderful people we know at the Catholic Community of St. Rose and The Mission of the Good Shepherd now account for most of our lives. When feeling a need to get away, Roxanna and I enjoy camping, especially on California beaches. Of course, riding my Harley is always a priority.

What I like about our Catholic Community of St. Rose and The Mission of the Good Shepherd:
The strong sense of the presence of the Holy Spirit making St. Rose and The Mission of the Good Shepherd so alive, so vital, so vibrant, and so invigorating.

About my position:
Though I am native to western Pennsylvania, my wife, Pat, and I and lived and worked near Philadelphia for more than 25 years where I was ordained in June of 2001. We settled in the Valley in 2006 and I was assigned by Bishop Olmstead to serve at St. Rose and The Mission of the Good Shepherd in May, 2007. Deacons are ordained to serve at the altar, in Ministry of the Word and work of charity, so I serve the Parish in helping to prepare parents for Baptism of their children, working with people seeking annulment of marriages, Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, and with the Just Faith program.

About me:
Pat and I have been married 30 years and share our home with two dogs: a black and silver German Shepherd named Sugar Bear, and an Aussie Shepherd named Sonny. I also work as the Director of Support Services for the Crosier Fathers and Brothers, an 800-year-old religious order of priests and brothers founded in the Netherlands.

What I like about our Catholic Community of St. Rose and The Mission of the Good Shepherd:
I especially enjoy serving at a young Parish where we are working to establish our traditions, our identity as a Parish, and our presence in the community.

Matt Ficarra
(About Matt)
Director of Liturgy and Music

More about Matt

About my position:
I am the Director of Music and Liturgy, and am responsible for overseeing the musical and liturgical events at the Parish. I began working at the Parish when it was inaugurated in September of 2004.

About me:
I am the oldest of five children and grew up as an "Air Force Brat." Although my father served for more than 20 years, we only moved four times. We spent a total of 10 years in Italy, split between two different tours. Five years were spent in Aviano and five in Naples. In between, we were stationed at Loring Air Force Base in Maine. I began High School in Arizona and then graduated with a degree in Education from A.S.U. Although I typically play piano or acoustic guitar at the Parish, my primary instrument is the electric guitar. As an electric guitar player, I've had the opportunity to play for a number of well-known Catholic artists and, in 2002, was invited to play at World Youth Day in Canada. Over the last 10 years, I have written a number of psalms and Mass settings that are used around the diocese and in some parishes around the nation.

What I like about our Catholic Community of St. Rose and The Mission of the Good Shepherd:
I really enjoy the people. There is a great energy and sense of community at this Parish.

About me:
I am the oldest of a large family and lived most of my childhood in California and Idaho. I came to Arizona in 2000 and have two grown children and two grandsons, all of whom live in the area. My family is my treasure. I have been involved in parish ministry almost all of my adult life and began my career in a parish in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. I served there for many years as the director in a wonderful culturally diverse community. I moved to Flagstaff and served in the San Francisco de Asis parish community for 8 ½ years - another wonderful community. I came to the Catholic Community of St. Rose and The Mission of the Good Shepherd in September 2008. My passion is Catholic Social Teaching and how we can teach and live those values in our lives.

What I like about our Catholic Community of St. Rose and The Mission of the Good Shepherd:
I appreciate the sense of community and continue to be impressed with the compassion and care people have for one another. I especially appreciate the different organizations and ministries that value the sacredness and dignity of all human persons. The youth are a powerful and positive presence.
